Big Businesses Make Money Through Premium Rate Phone Numbers

Premium Rate Phone Charges and Revenue Sharing Numbers within the NHS

Many businesses generate revenue through premium rate numbers. Calling premium rate numbers can cost you upto 10 pence per minute. One phone call of over 5 minutes to these numbers can earn businesses upto 5 pence per minute at peak rate. If you calculate this to the whole year it will come to be £300,000 a year as big businesses deal with approximately 3000 calls per day. This amount generated can help businesses pay off the salaries of most people working for them. This can be seen as a negativity and also positivity as this is an area of opportunity to build your business and take it to the next level if your business provides the services which people require in their daily life because they will for sure ring these numbers even if it costs them.

Some of the examples of premium rate numbers are 0870 numbers, 0845 numbers, 0871 numbers and 0844 numbers. Most businesses these days are targeting this number as it is an opportunity to generate money. One simple example using these premium rate numbers to generate revenue is to use this number for helpline or technical support as most IT companies in the UK. As you probably know it yourself, when you call the helpline you are put in a cue till the next staff becomes available this is take atleast 15 minutes and when someone does come on the other link you will have to explain the problem then some more time to find the solution then to fix the problem, in this process the company is already generating approx 60 mins of the call charges.

IT is also very rare that the calls to these numbers are free through your home telephone package or even work. Many mobile networks do not even provide free minutes to ring 0808 or 0800 numbers so calling 0870, 0845, 0844 numbers will be more expensive. BT and some other network providers are starting to include 0845 and 0870 in some of their packages but do not apply to 0844 and 0871 numbers.
